HIRVI MIRCHI CHA THECHA / MIRCHI KHARADA THECHA ( MAHARASHTRIAN SPICY DRY GREEN GARLIC CHUTNEY )

Jowar bhakri/ Jolad rotti as it is called in North Krnataka regions needs only one accompaniment, this spicy Hirvi mirchi cha thecha / Mirchi Kharada thecha which is a almost dry chutney using  green chillies garlic  and  coarsely pounded to be had with bhakris.

Every Maharashtrian home has its small variation but by and large this is the simplest recipe one can make in a hurry and can be stored upto 10 days in the fridge.

I find this very delicious even with idlis, dosas and specially curd rice. You can add as many green chillies you dare to and also the garlic cloves .

Hirvi Mirchi cha thecha as it s called in Marathi is a popular spicy green rustic chutney which can be prepared easily on the mortar pestle , as it needs to be coarsely ground..

Ingredients

( Dry garlic green chilly chutney)

10-15 green chillies
4 cloves of garlic or more if you wish.
1-2 tbsp roasted peanuts/shengdana
1/2 cup finely chopped coriander leaves
2 tsp oil
salt to taste

Method

In a pan, add oil , add the green chillies and garlic cloves, sautee chillies til they look brownish and soft
Remove, cool and grind with other igredients to a very coarse mixture..better done with a a mortar and pestle if you have one handy in the kitchen or else use mixi , but grind coarsely .

 A small variation :

Mirchi Kharda is made by first grinding to a coarse paste above ingredients and then sauteeing lightly with oil.

options

grated coconut, sesame seeds, may be added after roasting but authentic thecha has very few simple ingredients and very rustic.
